HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team clinched the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Horizon League Tennis Championship and opens play on Friday, April 29 at 3 p.m. against the No. 6 seed, UIC. All matches throughout the tournament are set to air on ESPN3.

The tournament is set to take place at the Preston Robert Tisch Building on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The complete bracket, ticket prices, directions and other tournament information can be found at HorizonLeague.org.

NKU is 8-6 on the year and 3-3 in League action.

Mate Virag leads the Norse in singles play with a 10-4 mark at the No. 1 flight. He enters the weekend with a record of 4-2 against Horizon League opponents with all four of his victories coming in straight sets.

Jody Maginley splits time between the No. 2 and 3 flight and is 9-5 in dual matches with a team-high 14 wins on the year. The senior has posted a 3-3 record in League matches and has paired up with Nick Lang at doubles where the two are 5-5 overall and 3-2 when competing at the top flight.

The two teams last met on April 3 at UIC when the Flames earned a 4-2 victory over NKU. Virag defeated Carl Hedstrom at No. 1 singles. Maginley captured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Christopher Cole at No. 2 while he and Lang also posted a doubles victory.

UIC owns a 10-11 record and 2-4 mark in the Horizon League. Max Cederkall has a team-best 11-9 record in dual matches, splitting time between the No. 4, 5 and 6 flights. Cederkall is 8-4 when playing at No. 5 while Mitch Granger enters the weekend sporting a 10-10 record between the No. 3 and 4 flights. Granger and Cole have paired up for a 9-7 mark at No. 1 doubles.

The winner of Friday's match will move on to the semifinals to take on No. 2 Green Bay Saturday, April 30 at 3 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday, May 1 at 3 p.m.
