VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky University softball team got a pair of hits from
Jordan Harbacek, but dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Horizon League foe Valparaiso by scores of 2-0 and 8-0.
Harbacek had one of NKU's four hits in the opener for the Norse (8-23, 1-4 Horizon) and matched her season high with six strikeouts in the circle in a complete-game effort, scattering nine hits while allowing just two runs.
Sydney Ferrante,
Dani Devlin and
Zahrya McFarland each picked up hits as well.
Valpo (7-20, 2-3 Horizon) scored on a solo home run by Lanie Callaghan in the second and got an insurance run on a Carly Trepanier sacrifice fly. The pair accounted for five of Valpo's nine hits in the opener. Mollie Lindeman (2-4) got the win for the Crusaders, striking out six.
Harbacek's second hit of the day came as NKU's only knock in the nightcap, as Valpo scored runs in the first, second, fourth and sixth innings to claim the doubleheader sweep.
The win went to Taylor Weissenhofer (4-6) in the circle, who struck out seven and walked four on the game.
Alyssa Enrique (0-3) took the loss for the Norse.
NKU begins a five-game home stand at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field on Wednesday with a nonconference doubleheader against in-state rival Morehead State. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., with the action carried live on ESPN3.
