@NKUNorseMBB adds Brandon Maxwell

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky men's basketball coach John Brannen welcomes Brandon Maxwell to his 2016-17 recruiting class, which has already received high marks.

"We are excited to announce the addition of Brandon to our team for 2016-2017 season," commented Brannen. "Brandon knows what it means to win and compete at a high level having played for Ryan Ridder at Daytona State CC. Brandon will bring the ability to stretch the defense with his perimeter shooting and is an outstanding defender. The NKU and Northern Kentucky community will enjoy watching Brandon over the next several years."

Maxwell is a talented wing from Daytona State College where he led the Falcons to a 25-7 record in his lone season with the team. The 6-foot-2 native of Orlando, Florida, averaged 13 points per game and made 83 three-pointers this season, which includes seven games with at least five treys.

However, Maxwell also made a name for himself on the defensive end of the court and was tabbed Daytona State's defensive player of the year.

During the FSCAA/NJCAA Region VIII tournament, Maxwell averaged 16 points on the strength of 50 percent shooting and was named to the all-tournament team.

Maxwell is immediately eligible and will have three years of eligibility. He is the son of 13-year veteran and two-time NBA Champion Vernon Maxwell.

Northern Kentucky's incoming class has already been called "easily one of the best mid-major classes in the country for the class of 2016" by Next Up Recruits. The class also features Kentucky's Mr. Basketball Carson Williams and finalist Mason Faulkner, as well as Ohio's Division III AP Player of the Year Dantez Walton. Williams and Faulkner teamed up for the Ohio-Kentucky all-star game, where they faced off against fellow signee Jalen Tate. NKU's fifth signee Blake Spellman recently won the DiRenna Award, which is presented by the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association to the top player in the Kansas City area.
