Hoosiers sweep @NKUNorseVB in season opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Northern Kentucky volleyball opened up the 2016 season with a road loss at Big Ten opponent Indiana. The Hoosiers swept the Norse in the lid lifter, 25-21, 25-16, 25-12.
 
First Set Summary
  • Indiana took the early lead and held on for a 25-21 win in the opening frame. That set would prove to be the most competitive of the three sets played on Friday night.
  • Senior outside hitter Tristen Simpson had a strong first set, finding the hardwood five times on seven attacks with just one error for a .571 clip.
  • Reception errors plagued the Norse early, with Indiana registering five aces in the first set.
  • The Norse had 13 kills on 28 attempts with six errors, good for a .250 hitting percentage.

  • Libs led the team with six digs while also notching four kills.
  • NKU was held to .099 on attacking, while the Hoosiers hit at a .412 clip. Indiana had the edge despite the two teams taking nearly the same amount of swings, but NKU's 18 hitting errors proved to be a key factor in efficiency.
  • IU was led by the tandem of Allison Hammond and Kendall Beerman, who had 11 kills apiece. Megan Tallman led the offensive charge with 24 assists.
