HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team fell to Cleveland State on Saturday evening by a score of 1-0. With the loss, NKU drops to 9-5-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the Horizon League. The Vikings move to 9-8-0 and 5-3-0 in League play.

"We give credit to Cleveland State, as they outworked us tonight," said NKU head coach Bob Sheehan.

BETWEEN THE POSTS

• Emily Lohmann made six saves in the match, and her record falls to 9-4-1.
• The Norse also recorded a team save in the contest.

 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY

• Cleveland State applied pressure early in the first half. In the 14^th minute, Dani Sowinski forced Lohmann to make a save.
• The ball bounced back into play off of the initial save, and the NKU defense had to make a team save to prevent the Vikings from scoring.
• Macy Hamblin recorded the first shot on goal for the Norse in the 20^th minute, but CSU's Jamie Daniels made the save to deny the attempt.
• Later in the half, Hamblin and Shawna Zaken tried to score, but both shots were blocked by the Viking defense.
• Elaina Walnoha gave CSU the lead in the 43^rd minute. The Norse defense cleared the ball out of danger, but Walnoha secured the ball and put her shot into the right side of the net.

SECOND HALF SUMMARY

• The Norse picked up the pace in the second half, which resulted in three shots in the first 14 minutes of the half.
• However, the CSU defense blocked two of the shots, and Daniels' save denied Ally Perkins a chance to score.
• In the 67^th minute, Jessica Frey forced Daniels to make another save.
• One of the best chances for NKU to score came in the 80^th minute. Erin Sutton played a cross in the box, and a CSU defender nearly put the ball into the goal. However, the defender cleared the ball over the net, which resulted in a Norse corner kick.
• Perkins had the final shot on goal of the match in the 88^th minute, but Daniels came up with the save.

 
MATCH NOTES

• CSU had a 17-15 shot advantage.
• The Vikings had eight shots on goal, compared to four for the Norse.
• The loss snaps a seven-match unbeaten streak for NKU.
• Before the match, NKU's senior class of Jessica Frey, Macy Hamblin, Kayte Osterfeld, and Elizabeth Wittwer were recognized for their contributions to the program.
