DELAND, Fla. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball fell to reigning Atlantic Sun champion Stetson on Wednesday evening, 67-56. With the setback, NKU drops to 1-5 overall, while the Hatters advance to 4-4.
STAT LEADERS
- Molly Glick had a career night with 21 points, going 7-of-12 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Glick also added a pair of blocks and four rebounds.
- Samari Mowbray added 11 points for the third double-digit scoring effort of her career and swiped two of NKU's three steals.
- Kailey Coffey was just shy of double digits with nine points.
- Jazmyne Geist led the Norse on the boards with six rebounds and had a strong defensive showing with two blocks and a steal.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- NKU came out hot to start the contest, shooting 80 percent into the first timeout paced by a 3-for-3 effort from Glick from the field.
- Stetson ended the first quarter on a six-point run to hold a 12-10 lead and extended that run to 13-0 going into the second quarter for a 19-10 advantage.
- The Norse retaliated with a nine-point run of their own within a two-minute stretch, but the Hatters were able to push for a 33-24 advantage by the half's end.
- NKU shot 55.6 percent in the half, but the Hatters put up 10 more shots than the Norse. Stetson also held a rebounding edge, 16-10.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- Glick put up 10 points in the third quarter to help keep NKU within 10 points of Stetson. The Norse shot 63.6 percent in the quarter, compared to 54.5 percent by the Hatters, but eight trips to the free throw line helped Stetson edge the Norse by a point in the third, 20-19.
- Stetson won the fourth by a point as well, but the Norse dipped to 14.3 percent shooting. However, NKU had a consistent effort from the free throw line, sinking 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.
NORSE NOTES
- NKU held the advantage in efficiency, shooting 44.2 percent for the contest while Stetson went 42.3 percent from the field. The Norse also ended the contest with a one-rebound edge, 28-27.
- Stetson scored 36 points in the paint, compared to 22 for NKU, and had 26 points off NKU's 18 turnovers.
- Stetson moves to 6-3 over NKU in the all-time series.
- The Hatters are the second team with an NCAA Tournament experience from the 2016-17 season that the Norse have faced this year.
