Cross-county foe Thomas More to host @NKUNorseTennis men

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's men's tennis does not travel far from home for its next competition, as the Norse will take on Thomas More at Five Seasons Sport Club on Friday, Feb. 24. The facility serves as the home venue for both NKU and Thomas More, with the Saints holding hosting duties for the match.

LAST TIME OUT: NKU picked up two wins a fortnight ago, with a 4-0 win over Dayton on Feb. 10 before a 4-2 victory over Chattanooga on Feb. 11. After the weekend's success, the Norse were honored by the Horizon League with the season's second sweep of weekly honors. Senior Mate Virag earned his second Player of the Week nod after taking down both his opponents in No. 1 singles in straight sets, including a come-from-behind victory over UD's Jordan Benjamin in the first set. NKU showcased a variety of doubles lineups between the two matches, but the one that earned the distinction of being the HL Doubles Team of the Week was the pairing of sophomore Javier Araya and freshman Andrew Niehaus, who clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win in No. 3 doubles against Dayton, helping the Norse blank the Flyers.

SCOUTING THOMAS MORE: Friday's match will serve as the first of the spring season for Thomas More, which competes in the NCAA's Division III. The Saints' lone match of the year was on Oct. 4 with a 7-2 loss to Indiana-East. Thomas More's rookies shone in the match as Michael Kenney earned an 8-5 pro set in the No. 2 slot while Cameron Shi took the No. 3 singles point, 6-3, 6-2. Another first-year player served as a key component in October, with Sheldon Preisler sitting atop the lineup in singles as well as doubles, having teamed up with Kenney against Indiana-East.
