SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Norse pitchers allowed just two hits on Thursday led by starter
Trey Ganns' 5.1 innings of work, but Northern Kentucky baseball fell at Sacramento State, 2-0, after the Norse struggled to provide run support against Hornet starter Justin Dillon.
With the loss, NKU dips to 1-3 on the season while the Hornets improve to 3-1.
On the Mound
- Ganns allowed just one run, two hits, and struck out four batters in his 5.1 innings.
- Both of the Hornets' base hits came in the first two innings as NKU held Sacramento State hitless for the final six frames.
- Sophomore Joe Martin relieved Ganns and struck out one of his two batters faced.
- Senior lefty Charlie Jerger tossed 1.2 innings and struck out a pair while walking three.
- Sacramento State starter Dillon held NKU hitless in a complete-game shutout performance.
Key Moments
- The lone run the Hornets managed against Ganns came in the first inning on a sacrifice fly as Sacramento State would not score again until the seventh.
- Ganns stranded four runners on base across the second and third frames before he retired a stretch of eight-straight.
- Martin relieved Ganns in the sixth inning and induced a pop out in foul territory and an inning-ending strikeout to keep the Hornets scoreless.
- With one out in the seventh inning, Jerger stepped to the mound and inherited a bases-loaded situation. Jerger held the Hornets to a single run, which scored on a walk, and was pinned to Norse reliever Cameron Ross.
