DAYTON, Ohio – Northern Kentucky women's basketball fell on the road to Horizon League foe Wright State, 67-47. With the loss, NKU falls to 7-16 on the season and 3-8 in League play, while the Raiders took sole control of the leaderboard with a 10-1 HL record (18-5 overall) after Green Bay suffered its second loss of the season earlier this afternoon.
Stat Leaders
- Senior guard Kelley Wiegman and junior forward Kasey Uetrecht both poured in 12 points to lead the Norse in scoring, while also tying for the team lead in assists with two apiece.
- Redshirt-freshman guard Taryn Taugher had the third double-digit scoring effort of her career with 10 points.
- Senior forward Rebecca Lyttle finished just shy of recording her fifth double-double in six outings. The senior pulled down a season-best 14 rebounds, matching her career high of 10 defensive rebounds, while chipping in eight points.
First Half Summary
- Wiegman closed the first quarter with a lay-in seconds before the buzzer, but NKU trailed 15-9 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
- The Norse committed six turnovers in the frame, which Wright State turned into nine points. However, NKU outrebounded WSU, 11-7, and scored five second-chance points.
- Runs of 7-0 and later 7-2 helped the Norse erase a nine-point deficit in the second frame and knot the score at 23.
- Wright State held a 29-25 advantage at half, but Northern Kentucky outscored the Raiders 16-14 in the second quarter.
- Following a 31 percent (4-of-13) shooting opening frame, the Norse improved to 36 percent (5-of-14) in the second. However, it was stingy defense that helped the Norse in the second period. - NKU was led by Uetrecht with seven points and four boards. She was one of three Norse to collect four caroms, with Lyttle and Taugher joining her to help Northern Kentucky outrebound Wright State, 23-19.
Second Half Summary
- Lyttle opened the third frame with a layup for the Norse, but the Raiders used eight-straight points to extend their lead to double figures. She went on to grab seven rebounds in the quarter and had 11 through three.
- Miscues with the ball hurt NKU in the third. Nine turnovers translated into 13 points for WSU, as the Raiders outscored the Norse 17-11 in the stanza.
- Northern Kentucky had its best shooting quarter at 46 percent (5-of-11), but Wright state made 50 percent (9-of-18).
- The fourth quarter saw a similar outcome as the third, with Wright State outscoring the Norse, 19-11, in both frames.
Norse Notes
- NKU now sits at 12-6 all-time against Wright State. However, the Raiders are on a five-game winning streak against the Norse.
- The Norse held a 41-38 edge in rebounding, but were not as strong down low offensively with the Raiders scoring 46 points in the paint compared to 28 from NKU.
- Wright State showcased why it is one of the best teams in the nation at protecting the ball, committing just four miscues while forcing 21 turnovers from the Norse and converting those into 31 points.
- NKU was able to convert off the offensive boards more effectively than in past games, scoring 16 points off 15 offensive boards.
- The Norse were 19-of-53 from the field for 35.8 percent, while Wright State connected at a .406 clip on 28-of-69 shooting.
