CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky men's tennis was barely edged out by in-state foe Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday afternoon, falling in a 4-3 decision to the Colonels. With the loss, NKU dips to 4-3 overall, while EKU moves on to 11-5.
Match Notables
- The Norse dropped the doubles point to trail early, 1-0. Javier Araya and Andrew Niehaus delivered a speedy 6-1 win over Parth Aggarwal and Romain Stoffels in the No. 3 slot, but the Colonels took both the No. 1 and 2 sets.
- Araya tied up the match at 1-1 with a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win over Aggarwal in No. 3 singles.
- EKU rattled off two wins to take a 3-1 advantage over the Norse, with victories in No. 2 and 4 singles.
- Mate Virag battled with Sebastian Mueller in the No. 1 spot, claiming a 6-4 win in the first set before his opponent retaliated with a 6-4 second set. Virag burst out to a 4-0 lead in the third set, ultimately winning the deciding set, 6-2.
- Andrew Neihaus captured a smooth 6-3, 6-1 win over Diego Asis in No. 5 singles to tie the contest up at 3-3.
- Adrian Isache fell to Romain Stoffels in the first set of No. 6 singles, but gave a valiant effort in the second in an attempt to push a tiebreak. However, Stoffels won four straight games to take a 7-5 victory in the set and seal his singles victory and the win for EKU.
- NKU kicks off Horizon League action this Sunday, March 26, when the team travels to Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Norse square off with the Phoenix with first serve scheduled for 10 a.m. CT.
