TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night, falling to Indiana State, 2-1. With the loss, NKU moves to 2-1 on the year.

"Tonight was an important learning experience for our team," said head coach Bob Sheehan. "We will need to grow from tonight's match.
 
NKU SCORING SUMMARY
  • Jessica Frey put the Norse ahead 1-0 in the seventh minute of the contest. Ally Perkins crossed the ball from out wide, and Frey was able to head the ball into the back of the net to give the Norse the lead.
 
BETWEEN THE POSTS
  • Emily Lohmann played all 90 minutes in the net for the Norse. She made five saves on the evening, while allowing two goals.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Frey gave the Norse a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute.
  • The Sycamores responded by tying the game in the 20th minute. A corner kick taken by Caitlyn Eddy was played to Casidy Simonis, and she volleyed the ball back post to even the game at 1-1.  
  • Northern Kentucky had eight shots in the period, compared to five for Indiana State.
  • Each team recorded three corner kicks in the opening half.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Despite having more shots in the second half, NKU wasn't able to take the lead in the second half.
  • The Sycamores scored the game-winner in the 85th minute. Tessa Loeong crossed the ball to Alina Steffen, and she slid the ball into the back of the net to give Indiana State a 2-1 advantage.
GAME NOTES
  • NKU had 14 shots in the game, compared to nine for Indiana State.
  • The Norse had four corner kicks, while the Sycamores had three.
  • Indiana State committed 12 fouls on the night, with NKU being whistled for five.
