LEXINGTON, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's men's tennis opened up the 2018 season at Kentucky, falling in a 7-0 decision to the Wildcats.
Match Notables
- Kentucky won all three doubles matches, but the Norse were able to take a game off their opponents in the No. 1 and 3 matches. Felipe Hidalgo and Jorge Rodriguez Agudo teamed up in the top slot against Cesar Bourgois and Enzo Wallart, while Anthony Bosch and Blaine Carr took a game off Ryotaro Matsumura and Kento Yamada in the No. 3 spot.
- Every Norse won at least one game against his opponent in singles action.
- Andrew Niehaus took the opening game of both sets against No. 34 Matsumura in the top flight. Matsumura went on to take the point, 6-2, 6-1.
- Rodriguez Agudo was pitted against Austin Hussey in the No. 2 spot, falling in 6-0, 6-1 sets.
- Carr had a competitive opening set against Yamada in No. 3 singles, falling 6-3 before dropping the second, 6-2
- Both No. 4 and 5 singles ended in matching 6-2 wins for the Wildcats. Chris Murray fell to Jake Stefanik in the No. 4 spot while Felipe Hidalgo dropped the No.5 match to Alex Dominguez.
- Anthony Bosch appeared in the No. 6 spot against Bourgois, dropping the match 6-2, 6-1.
NKU continues its tour of in-state rivals next weekend when the Norse travel to Richmond, Kentucky, to take on Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Jan. 27. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
