RICHMOND, Ky. – Northern Kentucky men's tennis fell to 0-2 on the season after a 6-1 setback to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
Match Notables
- Jorge Rodriguez Agudo picked up his first win of the spring season in the No. 3 singles spot to give NKU its only point of the match. He took down Guillem Sanchis in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1.
- Two other Norse pushed an extra set against their opponent. Blaine Carr moved into the No. 2 singles spot against Parth Aggarwal and dropped the first and third sets, 6-1, and ground out a 7-5 win in the second set. In the No. 6 match, Anthony Bosch traded 6-4 sets with Nicolas Castaldo before the Colonel claimed the tiebreak, 10-4.
- Andrew Niehaus fell to Ramon van Flymen in the top match, falling in matching 6-3 sets.
- Chris Murray dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Gabriel Ruiz in the No. 4 singles match, and Felipe Hidalgo fell 6-2, 6-4 to Josh Piunti in the No. 5 singles match.
- The Colonels won all three doubles sets. Murray and Hidalgo had the most competitive matchup in the No. 2 spot, falling to van Flymen and Carlos Dodero, 6-3. Both the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches ended with a 6-1 EKU victory.
NKU hosts Pikeville in the first home match of 2018 on Feb. 3. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET at Five Seasons in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
