Last Time Out
Northern Kentucky had its best defensive game in the Division I era, limiting Detroit Mercy to 19.4 percent (7-of-36) shooting and just 16 points in the opening stanza on its way to a convincing 72-44 victory. The 44 points tie the program mark for fewest points allowed since transitioning to Division I and it's the best effort against another DI team in the six-year era.
Williams had a team-high 13 points, while McDonald posted his 10th double-double of the year with 12 points and 13 caroms. Sharpe also reached double figures with 10 points, as a total of six Norse tallied at least eight points.
Scouting Youngstown State
Youngstown State had one of the hottest starts in the Horizon League, opening the conference slate 3-0. However, the Penguins have gone 1-6 since that point with the only win coming against IUPUI two games ago. Cameron Morse (14.5 ppg) and Braun Hartfield (14.3 ppg) pace the Penguins in scoring. Morse was a first-team all-league performer last year, after earning second team accolades in 2016.
Series Stuff
NKU is 5-9 against YSU, including a 2-1 mark in three meetings last season. The Norse took down the Penguins, 84-74, in the semifinals during last season's run to the Horizon League Tournament Championship. However, Youngstown State has won all three meetings at the Beeghley Center in NKU's Division I era.
