@NKUNorseWBB falls on the road to No. 4/3 Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball had an efficient afternoon from its post players, but fell to the No. 4/3 Louisville Cardinals on Saturday by a final score of 92-59. The Norse fall to 1-6 with the setback, while the Cardinals remain undefeated at 11-0.
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Grayson Rose tied her career high of 16 points, going 7-for-10 from the field and 2-for-3 from 3-point range. She was just off a double-double with eight rebounds.
  • Kailey Coffey posted her first double-double of the season, and the fourth of her career, with 15 points and a game-high 11 boards.
  • Molly Glick had nine points and tied her career best in rebounds, with eight.
  • Emmy Souder also added nine points.
  • NKU's point guards, Taylor Clos and Ally Niece, combined for nine assists with Clos leading the way with five dimes.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Louisville used a 59.4 percent effort from the field to rush out to a 51-24 lead at the end of the first half, holding NKU to 34.5 percent.
  • Northern Kentucky had success in the post, with Coffey, Rose and Souder combining for 17 of NKU's 24 points in the half. Coffey led the team with seven points and six rebounds, while Rose and Souder added five points apiece.
  • The Norse crashed the boards hard in the opening stanza, outrebounding the Cardinals 18-16. However, turnovers plagued the Norse as Louisville scored 18 points off NKU's 13 miscues.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • NKU shot 47.1 percent in the third quarter, outscoring Louisville 21-15 as the Cardinals were held to 29.4 percent from the floor.
  • The Cardinals used a stronger fourth quarter to extend the lead even further, draining 10 field goals on 18 attempts (55.6%) and outscored the Norse 26-14.
NORSE NOTES
  • NKU shot 41.7 percent from the field, while Louisville shot 50.7 percent.
  • The Norse out-rebounded the Cardinals, 39-33, and bounced back from having zero second-chance points in their last outing against Illinois State to create 14 second-chance points against Louisville.
  • NKU also scored 36 points in the paint, but the Cardinals held the advantage in the statistic with 50 points down low.
  • Louisville benefitted heavily from NKU's 21 turnovers, scoring 29 points off Norse miscues.
UP NEXT
  • The Norse will travel to Providence, R.I. for the Friar Holiday Classic, hosted by Providence on Dec. 19-21. NKU faces La Salle first on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m., followed by host Providence at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 20. The tournament caps off on Dec. 21 when the Norse face Pepperdine at noon.
