PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball fell in its first game of the Friar Holiday Contest with a 74-56 setback to La Salle. The Norse fall to 1-7 overall on the season, while the Explorers advance to 2-9.
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Taylor Clos led the Norse with 14 points and added three rebounds and two assists.
  • Ally Niece joined Clos in double figures with 10 points and dished out a pair of assists while leading the Norse with two steals.
  • Jazmyne Geist had a season-high nine points and seven rebounds.
  • Grayson Rose and Emmy Souder had a strong outing on the boards, with eight and nine rebounds, respectively. Rose added six points to her stat line, along with a pair of assists.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • NKU shot 29.0 percent from the floor while the Explorers connected at 40.6 percent.
  • Turnovers caused trouble for the Norse, as NKU committed 12 miscues in the half while La Salle had just three turnovers. The Explorers also converted NKU's turnovers into 10 points.
  • The Norse held a staunch advantage on the boards, 27-17, and held La Salle to just one offensive rebound in the half. NKU had nine second-chance points, while not allowing any on the defensive end.
  • Niece led the charge with eight points, while Coffey added four points and six rebounds.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • La Salle had a 22-16 advantage in the third quarter and had established a sizable lead before the Norse won the fourth quarter, 19-17.
  • NKU's defense proved to be more disruptive in the second half, forcing 11 turnovers from La Salle and creating 12 points for the Norse. However, NKU had 15 miscues, resulting in 14 points for the Explorers.
  • NKU won the rebound battle in the half, 24-18, including 12 offensive boards while the Explorers were held to four offensive rebounds.
NORSE NOTES
  • NKU shot 32.3 percent from the floor, while La Salle shot 43.1 percent. The Explorers were efficient from long range as well, shooting 41.7 percent in 3-point shots.
  • The Norse recorded 51 rebounds in the setback, with 20 offensive boards, and held La Salle to 35 rebounds.
  • NKU committed 27 turnovers, which were converted into 24 points for La Salle. The Explorers also had a 28-24 advantage in the paint.
