Jaguars claim win over @NKUNorseWBB in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS  – Northern Kentucky women's basketball dropped a 70-48 decision on the road to IUPUI on Sunday afternoon. The Norse fall to 2-10 overall and 1-1 in Horizon League play while the Jaguars improve to 7-6 (1-1 Horizon).
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Ally Niece led the Norse in scoring with 12 points and pulled down four rebounds.
  • Kennedy Archer chipped in seven points, going 3-for-4 from the field.
  • Chyna Anthony and Grayson Rose both added six points, with Rose chipping in five rebounds and a pair of steals.
  • Kailey Coffey led the Norse on the boards with seven rebounds and added a team-high four assists to go with four points.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Both teams had a slow start, with a combined eight points in the first 6:10 of action. The Norse were able to get the offense going in the final minute with a pair of layups from Molly Glick and Rose, but NKU trailed by a 14-6 count at the end of 10 minutes.
  • Jazmyne Geist went on a 5-0 run to spark the Norse in the second quarter, and the Norse got within five points of the Jaguars after taking advantage of a number of IUPUI fouls with a 7-for-9 performance from the free throw line.
  • IUPUI ended the period on a 6-0 run to hold a 34-23 advantage at the half. NKU held a 19-17 advantage on the boards, with Rose and Coffey pulling down four rebounds apiece.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • NKU shot 46.2 percent in the third quarter, but the Jaguars connected at a 58.3 percent clip to outscore the Norse 19-13 in the third quarter.
  • IUPUI continued to build on its lead in the fourth quarter, shooting 40.0 percent while the Norse were 25.0 percent from the field in the 17-12 final period.
  • The Jaguars protected the ball well in the second half to bolster the team's efficiency, with just two turnovers in the final 20 minutes.
NORSE NOTES
  • NKU continued to outrebound opponents, pulling down 37 boards compared to IUPUI's 33 rebounds. Both teams entered the contest with a +5.8 rebounding margin and ranked 66th nationally in the statistic.
  • The Norse shot 36.0 percent from the field, while the Jaguars connected at 45.8 percent.
  • IUPUI had the slight edge in paint points, 34-28, and outscored the Norse 14-3 in points off turnovers.
  • NKU committed 15 miscues in the contest, while IUPUI had nine turnovers.
  • NKU retains the lead in the all-time series against IUPUI, 18-4, but the Jaguars have gone 4-1 in the two teams' Division I eras.

  • NKU returns home after spending nearly a month on the road. The Norse first host Milwaukee at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3 before welcoming league favorite Green Bay on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. The game against Milwaukee will be broadcast on ESPN+ while the tilt versus the Phoenix will be carried on ESPN3.
