PITTSBURGH – Northern Kentucky men's tennis came close to victory, but fell in a 4-3 decision to Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon.
Match Notables
- NKU opened up the match by taking the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and 3 spots. Blaine Carr and Andrew Niehaus took down Eduardo Garcia and Alec Dylan Foo-Kune in the top flight, 6-3, while Nick Elleman and Felipe Hidalgo blanked Samuel Miller and Chad Allender in the No. 3 match.
- The Norse nearly swept the doubles competition with the No. 2 match going extra games, but Jorge Rodriguez Agudo and Anthony Bosch ultimately fell to Franz Luna and Sebastian Pinos, 7-5.
- Bosch put the Norse up 2-0 with a win in the No. 6 singles match, marking his second-straight win in singles action. He defeated Allender in matching 6-4 sets.
- The Red Flash swung the lead in its favor, 3-2, with ensuing wins in the No. 2, 5 and 4 matches. Carr dropped a 6-2, 6-2 match to Foo-Kune, Hidalgo fell to Garcia, 6-2, 6-4, and Chris Murray pushed Samuel Miller to a third set but went down 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
- Rodriguez Agudo tied the contest up at 3-3 with a 6-2, 6-4 win in the No. 3 singles spot over Pinos.
- The clinching point came from the top singles matchup, in which Luna topped Niehaus, 7-5, 6-3.
NKU takes on cross-river foe Xavier on Saturday, March 3. The Norse take on the Musketeers at 6 p.m. ET following the women's match at 3 p.m.
