CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky men's tennis moved to 2-2 on the season with its second-straight 7-0 victory, taking down Thomas More College on Friday evening.
Match Notables
- NKU won all three doubles contests. Anthony Bosch and Jorge Rodriguez Agudo were the first to reach victory with a 6-1 win in the No. 3 set against Alex Traylor and Brandon Kwok. The point was sealed with a Chris Murray and Andrew Niehaus win, 6-2, against Sheldon Preisler and Jeffrey Schenk in the No. 2 spot. The two teams played out the top flight, with Felipe Hidalgo and Blaine Carr taking down Derrick Kwok and Jared Haught, 6-4.
- The first two singles points were by way of a pair of blankings in the No. 3 and 5 matches. Rodriguez Agudo was the first to finish in No. 3 singles, defeating Preisler 6-0, 6-0. Murray completed his 6-0, 6-0 win over Wesley Smith in the No. 5 slot shortly thereafter.
- Rodriguez Agudo has now won three-straight singles matches.
- Nick Elleman clinched the match in the No. 6 spot, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Michael Schwarz.
- Hidalgo easily took his first set over Haught, 6-1, and faced a 4-3 deficit in the second set. He rattled off three-straight games to take the No. 4 singles match.
- Niehaus picked up a win in the No. 1 match, squaring off against Derrick Kwok. He quickly dispatched his opponent, 6-1, 6-2.
- Carr completed NKU's sweep of the Saints in the No. 2 spot, defeating Schenk in matching 6-2 sets.
NKU plays its first out-of-state opponent of 2018 when it travels to nearby Dayton on Saturday, Feb. 17. First serve against the Flyers is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
