CHICAGO – Northern Kentucky men's tennis dropped a 6-1 decision to Horizon League foe UIC on Saturday evening, dropping to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in League play.
Match Notables
- The Flames claimed the opening point with wins on the No. 1 and 2 doubles courts. Jorge Rodriguez Agudo and Felipe Hidalgo dropped a 6-4 set to Niko Wasilewicz and Marcelo Dib on the top court, while Andrew Niehaus and Chris Murray fell to Johan Hedstrom and William Wale in No. 2 doubles, 6-0.
- UIC clinched the match with wins in No. 4, 6 and 3 singles.
- NKU got its only point from Rodriguez Agudo, who moved up into the No. 2 singles slot and defeated Hedstrom in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(5).
- Hidalgo also took a set off his opponent, claiming the first in an extended set against Kailash Panchapakesan, 7-5, before falling 6-1 in the second. The Flame won the tiebreak, 10-6.
- Niehaus also had a tight matchup in the top flight, dropping matching 6-4 sets to Wasilewicz.
The Norse are back in action tomorrow, facing IUPUI on the road at 1 p.m..m. ET.
