YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Northern Kentucky men's tennis dropped a 6-1 decision to Youngstown State on Saturday. The Norse drop to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in Horizon League play, while the Penguins move to 8-11 (2-2 HL).
Match Notables
- Youngstown State took the doubles point with wins in No. 1 and 2 singles before clinching the match on the No. 6, 4 and 1 courts.
- Jorge Rodriguez Agudo recorded NKU's lone point with a three-set win in No. 2 singles. He downed Joao Garretto, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
- The Norse battled in singles with five extended sets, three of which went into tiebreak.
- Andrew Niehaus went to tiebreak in the opening set against Danylo Veremeichuk in the top flight, falling 7-6(5) before Veremeichuk took a 6-4 second set.
- Blaine Carr and Felipe Hidalgo had a pair of heartbreakers in No. 3 and 5 singles. Carr dropped the first set to Vasileios Vardakis in No. 3 singles, 7-5, before a 7-6(2) setback in the second.
- Hidalgo had a similar outcome, falling 7-5 in the opening set against Matthew Kritzinger before a 7-6(3) second set to seal the match for the Penguin.
