@NKUNorseMSOC moves to 4-0 overall with a 3-2 win over Robert Morris on Sunday

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team moved its record to 4-0 on the season with a 3-2 win over Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials fall to 0-3-1.
 
"We are delighted to have won another tough road game and move to 4-0 on the season," said NKU head coach Stu Riddle. "We couldn't ask for anything more than what we have gotten from the players, and they deserve the congratulations. We are excited to open up league play next weekend at home in front of what I hope is a very good crowd."
 
NKU SCORING SUMMARY
  • Alex Willis scored his sixth goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Connor Probert played a corner kick in to the box, and Willis put the ball into the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1.
  • Calvin Murphy gave the Norse a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute. The Norse earned a free kick after a Robert Morris foul. The ball was played into the box, and Murphy tapped it in from close range to put NKU ahead. Willis earned the assist on the play.
  • Greive added to the lead in the 56th minute. A cross from Probert was played into the box from the left side. The ball went to Willis, who had his shot attempt saved. Greive picked up the rebound and put it into the back of the net to allow NKU to go ahead 3-1.

  • Jim Barkei faced 11 shots and made five saves on the afternoon.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Tom Suchecki fired a shot on goal in the third minute, but his attempt was saved by the Robert Morris goalkeeper.
  • Barkei made his first save in the contest on a shot by Onando Collins in the ninth minute.
  • Greive put a shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the attempt was saved.
  • Barkei stopped another shot by RMU in the 24th minute.
  • Robert Morris took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. Cristian Palermo played a ball over the top of the NKU defense to Zac Sherman. He lofted his shot just over Barkei to give the Colonials the lead.

SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Murphy put NKU ahead 2-1 in the 50th minute.
  • Greive added a goal in the 56th minute to allow NKU to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Barkei stopped a shot from RMU's Sherman in the 57th minute to prevent him from scoring.
  • Felix Komolong had a header attempt in the 64th minute, but his shot was wide of the frame.
  • In the 79th minute, Sam Slocum nearly scored, but his shot rattled off of the post.
  • RMU's Sherman took a shot in the 83rd minute, but his attempt was wide of the net.
  • The Norse defense blocked another shot by the Colonials in the 84th minute.
  • Later in the 84th minute, Barkei stopped a shot by RMU's Oeyvind Skjesol.
  • RMU's Owen Pearce took a shot in the 85th minute. However, his attempt was wide left.
  • The Colonials earned a free kick in the 87th minute. The ball was played into the box, and RMU's Raffaele Vio got a head on it, but Barkei made a nice save to clear the ball away from the goal.
  • Sherman scored his second goal of the contest for RMU in the 88th minute to make the score 3-2. He took a chip shot that found its way into the back of the net. However, the Norse came away with the 3-2 victory.
 
MATCH NOTES
  • The Norse had a 13-11 advantage in shots.
  • Willis' goal was his sixth of the season.
  • Greive and Murphy each scored their second goals of the year.
