@NKUNorseMBB heads to Palmetto State for meeting with Coastal Carolina

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – A trip to Conway, South Carolina, for a road showdown against Coastal Carolina awaits the Northern Kentucky University men's basketball team. The Norse and Chanticleers will tip it up on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. (ET) at the HTC Center.

• NKU moved to 1-1 on the year with a 71-56 setback at Missouri Friday night.
• Northern Kentucky remains on the road for a second-straight game when it faces Coastal Carolina on Tuesday.
• NKU leads the all-time series, 1-0, after defeating CCU 89-83 in the KEMI Northern Kentucky Basketball Classic last season.
• NKU ushers in the Darrin Horn era, as the Kentucky native is just the sixth head coach in the 49th season of the program. In his 10th year as head coach, Horn has a career record of 172-112.

• With a DI-era record 26 wins last year, NKU secured a third-straight 20-win season for the first time in the DI era and just the third time in program history.
• Since the start of the 2016-17 season, NKU is a combined 73-31 (.702), has won the Horizon League regular season twice (2018, 2019) and league tourney twice (2017, 2019), and has played in both the NCAA Tournament (2017, 2019) and NIT (2018). No other team in DI history has registered this level of accomplishments in its first three years with active status.
• The Norse took a summer tour to the U.S. Virgin Islands, going 3-0 against the UVI and BVI National Teams.
• G Tyler Sharpe, a Preseason All-Horizon League Second-Team honoree, is averaging 18.5 points per game while making 44 percent (7-of-16) of his 3-point attempts.
• Sharpe was second in scoring for NKU last year, pouring in 14.4 points per game and, in 26 of the team's 35 games hit at least two threes. His 90 made threes on the season ranked 70th nationally.
• Though early in his third season at NKU, Sharpe has already moved into the top-50 all-time scorers at NKU. With his 18-point showing at Missouri, he now ranks 49th with 750 points as a Norse.
• G Trevon Faulkner is one of four returning starters for NKU this year. The sophomore guard is averaging 12.0 points per game.
• G Jalen Tate collected his second-straight Horizon League All-Defensive Team nod to end last year and earned distinction as a preseason all-league first-team honoree this year.
• Tate averaged 13.7 points behind 53.9 percent (159-of-295) shooting, which ranked 54th nationally, during his redshirt-sophomore campaign.
• Tate, who was recently named to the Lou Henson Award Watchlist, is averaging 6.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
• F Silas Adheke earned his first career start versus UC Clermont and, the redshirt junior is averaging 11.5 points per game behind white-hot 84.6 percent (11-of-13) shooting.
• F Dantez Walton averaged 11.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He joins Sharpe and Tate as returning Norse who averaged double digits in scoring.
• Walton registered his first career double-double with 15 points and a career-best 14 rebounds in the league championship game against Wright State.
• A senior for the Norse, Walton is currently averaging 8.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
 
Last Time Out
Trailing by four with just under 17 minutes remaining, Northern Kentucky went ice cold from the floor and surrendered a 17-point run to Missouri over a span of seven minutes. A 4-for-7 showing from 3-point land helped Sharpe to a team-best 18 points in the contest. Adheke, who made 5-of-6 shots, and Faulkner both chipped in 10 points. Tate distributed eight assists and added five rebounds. NKU was limited to 37 percent shooting (22-of-59) and just 28 percent (8-of-29) from 3-point range. Meanwhile, Missouri made 46 percent (25-of-55) from the field and 32 percent (6-of-19) from three. NKU forced 12 Mizzou miscues, which it converted into a 16-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
Scouting Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers are 1-1 and will not leave Conway, South Carolina, until the last day of November, playing their first seven games of the season on their home court in The HTC Center. Campbell defeated Coastal Carolina in the season opener, but CCU rebounded with a win over Hampden-Sydney Friday night. Four players are currently scoring at a double-figure clip for the Chanticleers, led by 22.5 points per game from Tyrell Gumbs-Frater. Keishawn Brewton contributes 18.5 ppg, while Garrick Green and Tommy Burton add 13.0 and 10.0, respectively. CCU converts at a 51 percent clip from the field and 40 percent average from three, but only allows opponents to shoot 37 percent overall and 35 percent from range.
 
Series Stuff
Northern Kentucky is 1-0 all-time against Coastal Carolina, with a series that is only one year old. NKU used a 31-point, 12-rebound effort from Drew McDonald in the Norse's 89-83 victory. Tate added 16 points and Sharpe poured in 15. Walton gave NKU its fourth double-figure scorer with 11 points. Zach Cuthbertson, who was a senior for CCU last year, led the Chanticleers with 20 points. Tyrell Gumbs-Frater totaled 16.
