Saint Louis upends @NKUNorseWBB in home opener

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team fell to Saint Louis, 67-42, in the season home opener. The Norse fall to 0-2 on the year while the Billikens improve to 3-0.
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Molly Glick led the Norse in scoring with 10 points and added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Grace White added nine points off the bench, going 4-for-5 from the field.
  • Kailey Coffey chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.
  • Emmy Souder had six points, and Carissa Garcia added five points and five assists.
 
TURNING POINT
  • The Billikens started the contest out on a 12-0 run and did not surrender the lead for the rest of the contest.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Following Saint Louis' run, the Norse were able to gain some rhythm and net six points to Saint Louis' ensuing seven in the first quarter.
  • NKU went on to outscore the Billikens in the second quarter, 17-12, bolstered by a pair of Glick 3-pointers.
  • Saint Louis led by eight at the half thanks to a 5-for-5 performance from Rachel Kent, including 3-for-3 from long range.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Following back-to-back buckets from White, Saint Louis went on a 20-5 run that ended with 4:18 remaining in the fourth quarter.
  • White netted all nine of her points in the second half to pace NKU's offense.


  GAME NOTES
  • The Norse shot 24.1 percent (14-for-58) from the field while Saint Louis shot 45.7 percent (21-for-46).
  • The Billikens scored 20 of their points from the free-throw line. The Norse also took advantage of trips to the charity stripe, sinking 11 of 13 attempted free throws.
  • Saint Louis narrowly won the rebounding battle, 37-36. However, the Norse heavily outrebounded the Billikens on the offensive end with 17 offensive boards. Saint Louis was held to just three second-chance points.
  • NKU committed 17 turnovers, while Saint Louis committed 16 miscues. 
  • The Billikens had a 32-18 advantage in the paint.
