GREEN BAY, Wis. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball fell in the first game of Horizon League competition, dropping a 65-44 decision to preseason favorite Green Bay. The Norse dip to 6-6 overall and 0-1 in league play while the Phoenix advance to 6-7 (1-0 Horizon).
STATS LEADERS
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- Green Bay set the tone early, starting the contest out on a 15-0 run before Grayson Rose hit a 3-pointer to put NKU on the board.
- The Phoenix shot 60.7 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from beyond the arc in the opening half while NKU shot 14.3 percent from the field. Green Bay led by a 47-13 margin at the half.
- Rose, Glick and Ivy Turner each had three points in the first half, while Coffey and Carissa Garcia added two apiece.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- The Norse drastically slowed Green Bay's offensive power in the second half, holding the Phoenix to 7-of-30 (23.3 percent) while NKU improved its efficiency to 11-of-32 (34.4 percent).
- Following a slow start from both teams, Souder hit a 3-pointer with 6:42 to play in the third to spark a 10-2 run, capped off by a triple from Taylor Clos. The Norse used another run in the fourth to end the contest, outscoring the Phoenix 9-2 in the final 7:06.
- Niece scored all nine of her points in the second half as the Norse edged the Phoenix, 31-18. NKU also had the advantage on the boards in the second half, 25-18.
GAME NOTES
- Green Bay shot 24-for-58 from the field for 41.4 percent while the Norse hit 15-of-60 for 25.0 percent.
- The Phoenix outrebounded the Norse, 43-37, and had a 34-8 advantage in the paint.
- Both teams committed fewer turnovers than their season averages, with NKU posting 12 miscues while Green Bay had 10.
