CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky men's tennis picked up its first win of the season, blanking nearby Thomas More, 7-0. The Norse move to 1-4 overall while the Saints drop to 4-5.
Match Notables
- The Norse won all three doubles sets to take the opening point. Aleksander Sadal and Jorge Rodriguez Agudo handily won against Derrick Kwok and Ethan Caruso in No. 1 doubles, 6-0, before Blaine Carr and Nathan Schwartz sealed the point with a 6-2 win over Jared Haught and Jeffrey Schenk in No. 2 doubles. For good measure, Felipe Hidalgo and Chris Murray added a 6-3 victory over Josh Huster and Brandon Kwok in the No. 3 matchup.
- Sadal picked up his first collegiate singles win to move the Norse to 2-0 over the Saints. He took down Derrick Kwok, 6-0, 6-2.
- Rodriguez Agudo slid into the No. 2 singles spot and handed Schenk a defeat in matching 6-1 sets.
- Murray provided the clinching point, also with a pair of 6-1 sets, over Haught in the No. 4 singles match.
- Nick Elleman was the next to finish in the singles lineup with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Johann Pybus.
- Felipe Hidalgo moved up to the No. 3 spot in the singles lineup and emerged victorious in a pair of extended sets, 7-6(1), 7-6(4) over Caruso.
- Anthony Bosch completed the sweep of the Saints after coming out on top of a tiebreak with Jaret Fidler in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0.
The Norse face their second Power Five opponent of the season next week when the team heads to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on Louisville at noon on Thursday, Feb. 21.
