Western Kentucky takes series finale against @NKUNorseBSB

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Western Kentucky on Sunday by a final score of 19-2. NKU drops to 0-3 on the year, while WKU moves to 3-0.
 
AT THE PLATE ON THE MOUND
  • Jake Dennis got the start on the mound for NKU. He pitched one inning, allowing one run on one hit. He struck also struck out three batters.
  • Cameron Ross (L, 0-1) came out of the bullpen in the top of the second. He gave up one run on two hits. Ross also struck out six batters in three innings of work.
  • Jordan Menfee relieved Ross, and he allowed three runs.
  • Gunnar Barnard and Noah Richardson each gave up two runs.
  • Tyler Ollier pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits.
  • Chris Barber went on the mound in the seventh inning, giving up nine runs.
  • Tyler Murphy pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
KEY MOMENTS
  • WKU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Richard Constantine hit a RBI single in the inning to score Matt Phipps.
  • The Norse tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Griffin Doersching walked to bring home Luty.
  • WKU went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Davis Sims hit a double in the inning, and he scored on a double by Phipps.
  • The Hilltoppers crossed the plate seven times in the bottom of the fifth to take a 9-1 lead. The biggest hit in the inning came on Phipps' three-run homer.
  • WKU added a run in the sixth inning. Sims recorded a RBI single in the inning.
  • The Hilltoppers pushed nine runs across in the seventh inning to make the score 19-1. Wilson had a three-run double in the inning.
  • Hedges hit a triple in the top of the eighth inning for NKU, and he scored on a wild pitch.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Each team committed two errors in the contest.
  • Bacon, Fisher and Luty each have a three-game hitting streak to start the year.
