McDonald adds Google Cloud Academic All-District to list of honors

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team was announced by CoSIDA on Thursday and features Northern Kentucky senior Drew McDonald.

McDonald holds a 3.40 GPA as a marketing major at NKU. He is a two-time Horizon League All-Academic Team honoree who has also been named to the Horizon League Honor Roll five-straight semesters. Last spring, he garnered NABC Honors Court accolades as well.

The Cold Spring, Kentucky, native was also recently named one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, which emphasizes the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.  Fan voting is currently ongoing via the Senior CLASS Award website and concludes March 25.

On the court, McDonald has led NKU to three-straight 20-win seasons for just the third time in program history. With McDonald patrolling the hardwood, NKU won the 2018 Horizon League regular-season title and made an appearance in the NIT, which came on the heels of taking the 2017 Horizon League Tournament Championship and subsequent berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The 6-foot-8 power forward has scored 1,949 points and secured 1,029 rebounds in his career, which rank third and first, respectively, in the Norse record books. His career totals also place him in a very exclusive list as one of just five active players at the DI level with at least 1,900 points and 1,000 rebounds.

Northern Kentucky is currently 20-7 overall and is tied atop the Horizon League standings with a 10-4 mark. The Norse host Youngstown State at BB&T Arena on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
