Glick’s buzzer-beating three lifts @NKUNorseWBB past Penguins, 65-62

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.- Northern Kentucky women's basketball brought it down to the wire against Youngstown State at BB&T Arena on Friday night. With one second remaining in the game, Molly Glick drained a three to give the Norse an electrifying victory, 65-62. The Norse move to 8-17 overall and 7-8 in Horizon League play, while the Penguins drop to 20-7 overall and 12-4 in the Horizon League.
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Glick led the Norse in scoring with 16 points going 6-of-10 from the field and going 3-of-5 from three. She added four rebounds on the night.
  • Ally Niece added 14 points, along with six rebounds and five assists.
  • Taylor Clos provided 14 points as well to go with a pair of assists.
  • Kailey Coffey recorded eight points and came up big on the glass with 11 rebounds, while also dishing out five assists.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • The Norse went into halftime with a 29-28 lead. NKU shot above 40 percent in the first quarter, but struggled in the second quarter shooting just 20.0 percent.
  • NKU won the rebounding battle, 22-19. The Norse took advantage of six offensive rebounds and converted them into nine second-chance points, compared to six tallied by YSU.
  • Niece led the way for NKU in scoring, reaching the 10 point-mark with help a pair of 3-pointers.
  • The Norse took care of the ball extremely well in the opening half with just one turnover.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Clos jumped out after the half to connect on back-to-back treys to continue NKU's best scoring run of the game, 13-0.
  • The Norse capitalized on shooting from beyond the arc in the third, sinking five 3-pointers on as many attempts. Glick contributed two of the five triples.
  • With 3:40 remaining in the game, Youngstown State tied the game at 58-58. The game remained close until the final second, where the Norse found themselves tied with one second left on the clock. Head coach Camryn Whitaker drew up an impromptu play that left Glick open off an elevator screen atop the arc, where she heroically sank the winning 3-point shot.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • NKU has now won five-straight games inside BB&T Arena.
  • The all-time series against Youngstown State is once again deadlocked, with each team winning five games. The victory snapped a four-game winning streak for the Penguins.
  • The Norse went 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) from three-point range. NKU held YSU to 6-of-28 (21.4 percent) in the same category. Entering the contest, Youngstown State topped the Horizon League in 3-point field-goal percentage, sinking long shots at 35.4 percent.
  • NKU led the rebound battle by snagging 35 compared to YSU's 32. Ten of the rebounds from the Norse were offensive and lead to 12 second-chance points, and the Norse held YSU to seven offensive boards.
  • YSU took the advantage in the paint, 34-28.
  • The Norse kept their turnovers low with nine miscues, while forcing the Penguins into 13 turnovers.

  • Northern Kentucky is back home at BB&T Arena on Sunday, Feb. 22, when it hosts Cleveland State at 2 p.m. ET. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Norse will honor lone senior Taryn Taugher prior to tip-off while also celebrating the annual Pink Game.
