Butler tops @NKUNorseBSB on Tuesday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Butler on Tuesday by a final score of 9-2. NKU drops to 4-17 on the year, while Butler improves to 14-9.
 
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Proctor Mercer (L, 0-2) got the start on the mound for the Norse. He went 3.2 innings, giving up four runs while striking out four batters.
  • Noah Richardson pitched two innings, allowing two runs and striking out three hitters.
  • Joe Martin pitched a third of an inning, giving up a walk.
  • Gunnar Barnard threw two scoreless innings, striking out a batter.
  • Brendan Alas made his season debut on the mound. He pitched the ninth inning, giving up three runs on four hits.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • Butler took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Robbie McCargar hit an RBI single to score James Gargano.
  • NKU tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the first. Haueter's RBI single brought home Griffin Kain, who hit an infield single earlier in the frame.
  • The Bulldogs went ahead 2-1 in the second. Gargano grounded out to third base, and Nathan Dill scored on the play.
  • Butler added another run in the third inning. Dill hit an RBI groundout, and Kollyn All crossed the plate to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-1.
  • The Bulldogs' Gargano scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning to make the score 4-1.
  • NKU loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but Butler escaped the jam without allowing a run.
  • Butler added two runs to go ahead 6-1 in the sixth. All walked with the bases loaded to score Kyle Smith, and Harrison Freed scored on a wild pitch.
  • The Bulldogs tacked on three more runs in the ninth. Jacob Margroff hit an RBI single, and Free recorded a two-run double.
  • NKU got a run back in the ninth inning. Kain singled through the right side to bring home Luty, who had doubled earlier in the frame.
 
 
GAME NOTES
  • Butler had a slight 9-8 advantage on hits.
  • NKU committed three errors, while the Bulldogs had one.
  • Haueter is now on a nine-game hitting streak.
