DI-AAA Athletic Directors Association names NKU’s McDonald to Scholar Team

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The 2019 DI-AAA Athletic Directors Association (ADA) Scholar-Athlete Team recipients were announced on Wednesday, featuring Northern Kentucky senior Drew McDonald as one of the 10 members on the men's team.

McDonald is a marketing major at NKU who holds a 3.40 GPA. He is also a three-time Horizon League All-Academic Team honoree who has been named to the Horizon League Honor Roll five-straight semesters. He is a 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District honor and, last spring, he also garnered NABC Honors Court accolades.

During his four-year career at NKU, he established several new records. McDonald closed his Norse career as the program's all-time leader in seven categories: scoring (2,066 points), rebounds (1,081), games played (131), free throws made (450), free throws attempted (586), defensive rebounds (816) and defensive rebounding averaging (6.2 rpg). McDonald led Northern Kentucky to win two Horizon League regular-season titles (2018, 2019), two league tournament titles (2017, 2019), two NCAA Tournaments (2017, 2019) and competed in the NIT (2018).

The Cold Spring, Kentucky, native was also named one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, emphasizing the total student-athlete and encouraging students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. This year, he has also been named an AP All-American Honorable Mention as well as the Horizon League Player of the Year.
