HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky softball returns to Horizon League action this weekend as the Norse host Green Bay for a series on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13. Friday will feature a single game with first pitch at 4 p.m. ET, and Saturay will be a doubleheader beginning at noon. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN3.
LAST TIME OUT: The Norse faced No. 22/23 Kentucky on Tuesday afternoon in front of a crowd of over 300 fans, but fell to the Wildcats in five innings as Kentucky's high-throttle offense allowed UK to plate a baker's dozen of runs.
Josie Frazier,
Taylor Hoover,
Jordan Jenkins and
Kit Rocco each recorded a hit in the contest, and
Emily Koperdak got the start in the circle for the Norse.
SCOUTING GREEN BAY: The Phoenix sit at 9-17 overall and recently shot up to sixth in the league standings after sweeping then-Horizon League-leading IUPUI on Tuesday and Wednesday. Green Bay's offense had its most successful weekend, winning 7-1, 14-13, and 7-0. Bailey Schultz has been leading the team at the plate with a .379 batting average, and also paces the team in hits (33) and runs (13). Morgan Bihun and Kalyssa Koehn have driven in 16 runs apiece, combining for seven home runs between the two. Kayla Schwebke is Green Bay's most used pitcher, appearing in 93.1 of the 167.0 innings played. Schwebke holds a 3.15 ERA and a 7-6 record. Green Bay has a slight 5-4 advantage in the all-time series, which began when the Norse joined the Horizon League in the 2016 season. Last season, NKU claimed a series victory with a pair of one-run wins following a 6-3 setback in the series opener.
