@NKUNorseBSB falls to UIC in doubleheader

CHICAGO – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to UIC in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday. The Flames won the first game 11-7 and picked up a 6-1 victory in game two. NKU drops to 8-27 overall and 6-9 in the Horizon League. UIC moves to 16-13 on the season and 10-4 in league play.
 
GAME ONE: UIC 11, NKU 7
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Kyle Service (L, 0-4) got the start on the mound. He gave up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and a walk. He also struck out a batter.
  • Noah Richardson came on to pitch in the sixth inning. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks.
  • Cameron Ross pitched two innings. He gave up two runs on five hits and a walk.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • UIC took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Scott Ota hit an RBI double, and Matt Bottcher scored from second after reaching on an error earlier in the frame. Later in the inning, David Becker hit a three-run homer.
  • NKU tied the game at 4-4 in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Haueter's RBI groundout scored Wakeham, and in the next at-bat, Doersching crushed a three-run homer to left field.
  • UIC took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the third. Alex Dee's sacrifice fly brought home Ryan Hampe.
  • The Flames added two runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-4. Hampe doubled to left center, bringing home Ota. Later in the frame, Thomas Smart hit a sacrifice fly to score Hampe.
  • UIC crossed the plate two times in the sixth to make the score 9-4. With the bases loaded, Ota hit an RBI infield single to bring home Ryan Lin-Peistrup. Hampe hit into a double play in the next at-bat, and Bottcher scored on the play.
  • Doersching hit his second home run of the game in the seventh, a two-run shot to left field, which cut the UIC lead to 9-6.
  • UIC got its final two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Ota and Hampe each hit an RBI single, putting the Flames ahead 11-6.
  • Haueter hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth, but UIC went on to win 11-7.
 
GAME TWO: UIC 6, NKU 1
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Kaleb Meeks (L, 1-2) got his first start of the season. He was charged with five runs on three hits and five walks. Meeks struck out four hitters.
  • Joe Martin pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on a hit and three walks. He also struck out eight batters.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • UIC went ahead 5-0 in the bottom of the third. The biggest hit in the inning came from Ota, who hit a three-run triple.
  • The Flames added a run in the bottom of the fourth. Hampe hit an RBI double to bring home Hampe.
  • NKU got a run back in the top of the sixth. With runners on the corners, Alas hit an RBI single to left field to bring home Haueter.
NOTES
  • Prior to today, Doersching was also the last NKU player to hit at least two home runs in a game. He hit three homers against Youngstown State on May 11, 2018.
  • Haueter now has 11 multi-hit games on the year, which leads the team.
