WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Northern Kentucky men's tennis ended its season at the 2019 Horizon League Championship, falling in a 4-2 decision to No. 3 seed UIC. The Norse end their season at 5-12 overall while the Flames advance to the semifinal against No. 2 seed Youngstown State.
Match Notables
- UIC won the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and 3 spots. In No. 2 doubles, Jorge Rodriguez Agudo and Aleksander Sadal notched a 6-3 win over Niko Wasilewicz and William Wale.
- The Flames went up 2-0 as Pelle Strandbert defeated Chris Murray in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
- Rodriguez Agudo posted NKU's lone point of the match, surrendering just one game to Anthony Nguyen in the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-0.
- A 6-2, 6-1 setback to Kasper Parlklo in No. 3 singles by Blaine Carr and a 6-1, 6-4 match to Kailash Panchapakesan over Felipe Hidalgo in No. 5 singles sealed the win for the Flames.
- In the abandoned matches, the Norse won both of the first sets. Nathan Schwartz defeated Johan Hedstrom in the top flight's opening set, 6-3, and trailed by a slim 5-4 margin in the second when the match was halted.
- In the No. 2 singles match, Sadal posted a 7-6 win over Wasilewicz and was down 4-2 when the match was abandoned.
