Eastern Kentucky battles back to defeat @NKUNorseBSB, 11-8

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday evening by a final score of 11-8. NKU drops to 10-33 on the year, while EKU moves to 24-21.
 
 
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Proctor Mercer got the start on the mound. He was charged with five runs on six hits and four walks. He also struck out four batters.
  • Noah Richardson allowed a run on two hits and two walks.
  • Gunnar Barnard (L, 0-1) gave up five runs, but only one was earned. He allowed two hits and three walks, while also striking out a hitter.
  • Tyler Ollier threw two scoreless innings, allowing just two walks. He struck out a batter.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Norse took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. With the bases loaded, Haueter scored on a wild pitch.
  • NKU crossed the plate four times to go ahead 5-0 in the second inning. Hedges' RBI single brought home Collin Luty, who walked earlier in the frame. Later in the inning, Bacon blasted a three-run homer.
  • The Norse tacked on two more runs in the third to extend the lead to 7-0. Jewell hit a two-run homer in the frame.
  • Eastern Kentucky got a run back in the bottom half of the third. Christian Lucio led off the inning with a home run.
  • NKU responded with a run in the top of the fourth to make the score 8-1. Bacon crossed the plate on a wild pitch after walking earlier in the frame.
  • EKU plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the NKU lead to 8-6. Lucio hit an RBI single, Ryland Kerr added a two-run single, Will Johnson contributed an RBI single, and Logan Thomason delivered an RBI double.
  • The Colonels scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 11-8. The biggest hit in the frame came from Daniel Harris IV, who sent a three-run homer to left center.  
 
GAME NOTES
  • EKU had a 10-4 advantage in hits.
  • The Norse committed four errors, and EKU had three.
  • Jewell's homer was his first of the season, and Bacon recorded his fifth home run of the year.
