Xavier gets past @NKUNorseBSB on Wednesday

CINCINNATI – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Xavier on Wednesday by a final score of 5-2. NKU drops to 10-34 on the year, and Xavier moves to 20-25.
 
 
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • TJ Graves (L, 0-1) made the first start of his collegiate career. He allowed five runs on two hits and four walks, while also striking out four hitters.
  • Tyler Murphy pitched four scoreless innings. He gave up just two walks and struck out three batters.
  • Kaleb Meeks threw a scoreless eighth inning. He allowed just a walk, and he struck out a hitter.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • NKU took a 1-0 lead in the first. Haueter hit a double with one out, and he came home on a double by Doersching.
  • Xavier scored five times in the third to go ahead 5-1. Ryan Fournier's solo home run tied the game, and later in the inning, Matt Warkentin hit a grand slam.
  • The Norse got a run back in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded, Haueter hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Brennan Gick.
 
GAME NOTES
  • NKU had a 6-2 advantage in hits in the contest.
  • Neither team committed an error.
  • Haueter now has 56 doubles in his career, which is second in the NKU record books. He needs two more to catch Evan McDole's record of 58. McDole played for the Norse from 2007-10.
 
UP NEXT
  • NKU will travel to Oakland this weekend for a Horizon League series. The series begins on Friday at noon with a doubleheader at Cleary University's Life Trust Stadium in Howell, Mich. The teams will conclude the series on Sunday at noon, with that game also at Life Trust Stadium. There will not be a Saturday game.
