@NKUNorseBSB tops Wright State on Saturday, 7-6

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team picked up a 7-6 win over Wright State on Saturday afternoon. The Norse trailed 4-0 early in the contest, but battled back to get the victory. NKU improves to 8-21 overall and 6-5 in the Horizon League. Wright State falls to 20-10 on the year and 6-5 in league play.

AT THE PLATE
ON THE MOUND
  • Kyle Service got the start on the mound. He allowed four runs on four hits and four walks. Service also struck out a batter.
  • Noah Richardson pitched 2.1 scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and five walks.
  • Kaleb Meeks (W, 1-1) earned the win on the mound. He threw 2.1 innings, allowing a run on two hits, while striking out two batters.
  • Cameron Ross came out to pitch in the seventh inning. Over two innings, he gave up one run on one hit and two walks. He also struck out three batters.
  • Joe Martin earned his second save of the series and third of the season. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning. He didn't allow a hit or a walk, and he also struck out a batter.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Wright State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. With the bases loaded, Zane Harris walked to score Tyler Black.
  • The Raiders added three runs in the second to go ahead 4-0. Peyton Burdick hit a two-run single in the frame, and Zach Weatherford's sacrifice fly brought home JD Orr.
  • NKU responded with three runs in the bottom of the second to make the score 4-3. Fisher hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Doersching, who led off the inning with a walk. Later in the frame, Luty reached on an error, which allowed Wakeham, who singled earlier in the inning, to cross the plate. The final run of the frame came on Griffin Kain's sacrifice fly, which gave Fisher the opportunity to score.
  • Doersching tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to center field.
  • Wright State went ahead 5-4 in the top of the sixth. Seth Gray hit a solo home run to give the Raiders the lead.
  • The Norse crossed the plate three times in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. Fisher hit an RBI single to score Andrew Bacon, Marion added an RBI double to bring home Wakeham, and Luty had an RBI bunt single, allowing Fisher to score.   
  • Wright State got a run back in the seventh on an RBI single by Burdick, but the Norse went on to win 7-6.

GAME NOTES
  • Wright State had a 9-7 advantage in hits.
  • Each team committed an error.
  • Wright State left 14 runners on base, while NKU only stranded five.
  • Doersching's home run was his sixth of the year.
