@NKUNorseBSB falls to Wright State on Sunday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Wright State on Sunday by a final score of 9-1. The Norse fall to 8-22 on the year and 6-6 in Horizon League play. The Raiders move to 21-10 overall and 7-5 in the league. Despite the loss, NKU took the series over Wright State two games to one.

AT THE PLATE
ON THE MOUND
  • Kyle Arganbright (L, 0-4) got the start. He allowed four runs (three earned) on a hit and three walks.
  • Kyle Service pitched four innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks. He also struck out two batters.
  • Noah Richardson gave up three runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks, while also striking out a hitter.
  • Gunnar Barnard pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing three walks.
  • Tyler Murphy had a scoreless eighth inning on the mound, allowing a walk.
  • Brendan Alas went on the mound in the ninth and didn't allow a run. He gave up two walks.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Wright State went ahead 4-0 in the top of the first. Zach Weatherford hit an RBI single with the bases loaded. In the next at-bat, Zane Harris walked, and Peyton Burdick crossed the plate. Damon Dues reached on a RBI fielder's choice in the next plate appearance. An error also occurred on the play, which allowed Weatherford to score.
  • The Raiders went ahead 6-0 in the second inning on Tyler Black's two-run homer.
  • Wright State added three runs in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 9-0. Dues recorded an RBI single, Harris scored on an error, and Dues came home on Black's RBI groundout.
  • NKU got a run back in the ninth inning to make the score 9-1. After Will Haueter was hit by a pitch, Trey Bowden entered the contest as a pinch runner.  A pair of groundouts moved Bowden to third, and he scored when Noah Fisher reached on an error.

GAME NOTES
  • Wright State had an 8-2 advantage in hits.
  • NKU committed three errors, while the Raiders had one.
  • Wright State left 13 runners on base, while the Norse stranded six.
  • The Raiders took advantage of 16 walks in the game.
