No. 12 Louisville defeats @NKUNorseBSB on Tuesday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to No. 12 Louisville on Tuesday evening by a final score of 11-2. NKU drops to 8-23 on the year, while Louisville improves to 25-8.

AT THE PLATE
ON THE MOUND
  • Proctor Mercer (L, 1-3) got the start on the mound. He pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out four hitters.
  • Cameron Ross got the final two outs of the fifth inning. He allowed one run on a hit and a walk. He also struck out a batter.
  • Noah Richardson pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Richardson struck out a batter without allowing a hit or walk.
  • Kaleb Meeks gave up four runs (two earned) on a hit and two walks. He also struck out two batters.
  • Tyler Ollier allowed two runs on a hit and three walks, while striking out a batter.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Louisville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Tyler Fitzgerald was credited with an RBI triple to bring home Lucas Dunn.
  • The Cardinals went ahead 2-0 in the third inning. Fitzgerald scored on an RBI single by Logan Wyatt.
  • NKU got a run back in the top of in the fifth to make the score 2-1. Fisher reached first base on walk, and he advanced to third after a throwing error by the Louisville pitcher on a pickoff attempt. Fisher crossed the plate in the frame on an RBI groundout by Collin Luty.
  • Louisville scored three runs in the bottom half of the fifth to extend its lead to 5-1. Alex Binelas hit a two-run double for the Cardinals, and he also scored in the inning on a wild pitch.
  • The Norse scored another run in the sixth inning. Hedges led off the frame with a single, Haueter was hit by a pitch, and Bacon reached on an infield single. With the bases loaded, Hedges crossed the plate on a wild pitch to bring the score to 5-2.
  • Louisville had four runners come home in the seventh inning to go ahead 9-2. Zach Britton hit an RBI double, and he scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Jared Poland. Poland scored in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Drew Campbell. Trey Leonard also crossed the plate in the frame on a wild pitch.  
  • The Cardinals tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning to extend their lead to 11-2. Logan Wyatt's sacrifice fly scored Ethan Stringer, and Fitzgerald scored on a wild pitch.

GAME NOTES
  • Louisville had a 9-5 advantage in hits.
  • The Norse committed three errors, while the Cardinals had one.
  • Haueter recorded his eighth multi-hit game of the season.
