HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team defeated Oakland on Saturday by a final score of 11-10. Andrew Bacon hit an inside-the-park home run with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth to help the Norse get the victory. NKU improves to 11-34 on the year and 9-13 in the league. Oakland falls to 10-28 overall and 8-11 in league play.
 
 
AT THE PLATE

• Bacon batted 2-for-2 with a double, inside-the-park home run, four RBI and two runs scored.
• Griffin Doersching went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.
• Brennan Gick had a 1-for-2 showing at the plate with a double and two RBI.
• Will Haueter was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
• Sam Hedges and Trey Bowden each went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

 
ON THE MOUND

• Kyle Service got the start on the mound. He gave up six runs on eight hits and three walks.
• Kaleb Meeks threw 2.2 innings, allowing a run and four walks. He also struck out two hitters.
• Noah Richardson pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just a hit while striking out two batters.
• Joe Martin (W, 3-1) picked up the win on the mound. He allowed three runs on three hits and two walks, and he also struck out five hitters.

 
KEY MOMENTS

• Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, Drew Demumbrum grounded out to second bae, which allowed Myles Zilinsky to score.
• The Norse went ahead 2-1 in the top of the second. After NKU loaded the bases, Jake Murray reached on catcher's interference, which allowed Jayden Wakeham to score. In the next at-bat, Griffin Kain singled to the Oakland shortstop, giving Bowden the opportunity to cross the plate.
• Oakland responded by taking a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the second. Mike McGee hit a three-run homer for the Golden Grizzlies, and Matt Deleo added an RBI single.  
• The Golden Grizzlies added a run in the third inning to make the score 6-2. With the bases loaded, Ronnie Krsolovic grounded into a double play, and Blake Griffith scored.
• An RBI groundout by Griffith in the fourth inning extended Oakland's lead to 7-2.
• The Norse crossed the plate four times in the top of the fifth to cut the Oakland lead to one at 7-6. Doersching hit a two-run homer, and Gick added a two-run double.
• NKU tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the eighth. Noah Fisher's sacrifice fly brought home Bacon.
• Oakland regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth on Griffith's three-run homer, which put the Golden Grizzlies ahead 10-7.
• The Norse battled back in the top of the ninth inning. With the bases loaded, Bacon hit an inside-the-park home run to give NKU an 11-10 lead.  

 
GAME NOTES:

• Bacon's homer was his sixth of the year.
• Doersching now has 12 homers on the year.
• Gick's recorded the first extra-base hit of his collegiate career with a double in the fifth.
