@NKUNorseMBB in Saint Thomas: Day 5; Norse defeat BVI for second time

SAINT THOMAS, U.S Virgin Islands –  Northern Kentucky's fifth day on the island of Saint Thomas featured the second installment of the Norse versus the British Virgin Islands National Team early in the afternoon hours, followed by some relaxation at the resort to close out the trip.

Dantez Walton scored the first six points of the contest and the Norse led for all by the first four seconds of the game in a dominant 91-68 victory. Four players reached double-figures in the contest to close Northern Kentucky's trip with a perfect 3-0 mark.
 
Stats Leaders
  • For the third game in a row, Tyler Sharpe led NKU in scoring. The sharp shooting guard poured in 22 points on 5-for-10 shooting.
  • Adham Eleeda converted 4-for-10 from deep en route to 15 points in the game.
  • Walton matched Sharpe's 5-for-10 shooting and tallied 13 points to go with five boards.
  • Trevon Faulkner was the fourth Norse in double figures. He scored 11.
  • Silas Adheke impacted the game across the board, posting a line of seven points, six rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals without committing a turnover.
 
The Details
Following Walton's torrid start to the game, the Norse continued to extend its lead throughout the entire first half and led 50-29 at break. NKU converted 17-of-30 (56.7 percent) field-goal attempts, including 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) from 3-point range in the half, while allowing BVI to make just five field goals on 22.7 percent shooting.
 
Northern Kentucky led by at least 20 points the rest of the way, extending the margin to as many as 32 with 11:19 remaining in the contest.
 
Notes
  • NKU surpassed 20 assists for the third-straight game, handing out 21 dimes on 29 made buckets. For the tournament, the team assisted 61 of its 89 made shots for an exceptional 68.5 percent assist rate. By comparison, Michigan State led the country last season at 66.8 percent, while Northern Kentucky was sixth at 61.7.
  • Faulkner and Tre Cobbs led NKU with 12 assists during the trip, while Sharpe and Bryson Langdon each handed out 10.
  • Sharpe averaged 27.3 points, scoring at least 22 or more each time out. He shot 52.9 percent (27-of-51) from the floor and 42.1 percent (16-of-38) from three.
  • Walton and Faulkner also added double figures in each game, with Walton averaging 16.0 points while converting 66.7 percent (16-of-24) of all his attempts and 50 percent (8-of-16) from deep.
  • Eleeda narrowly missed averaging double digits, posting 9.0 ppg, and Adheke hauled in 10.3 rebounds per game.
