HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team is set to travel to No. 6 Ohio State on Wednesday, January 15. The matches will be played at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center. First serve is at 10 a.m.
The Norse are looking to improve on their 2018-19 season that ended with a 5-12 record, with the help of six returning players. Among those are sophomore
Nathan Schwartz and junior
Jorge Rodriguez Agudo, who went a combined 19-12 in singles play last season. The Norse also welcome the return of
Andrew Niehaus, who sat out last year due to injury, as well as newcomers
Emilien Burnel and
Brandon Ponomarew.
Ohio State had one of its best seasons in program history, coming off the 2018-19 season ranked third in the Oracle ITA Division I Men's Rankings, but have since dropped to No. 6 in the polls. Ohio State sports a doubles team of Robert Cash and John McNally, who are ranked No. 2 in the country. Four Buckeyes, including McNally, are ranked in the top-40 in singles.
The Norse and Buckeyes have a short history of just one match, which took place on January 15, 2015. The then-No. 5 Buckeyes defeated the Norse, 7-0.
Live video and scoring will be available via Ohio State's website.
