HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – For the second time this season and the second time in his career, Northern Kentucky's
Tyler Sharpe has been tabbed the Nike
® Horizon League Player of the Week. The honor comes on the heels of a pair of stellar performances that catapulted the Norse into second place in the league standings while sending Sharpe soaring past the 1,000 career-point plateau.
The senior sharpshooter poured in a career-high-tying 33 points against Youngstown State on Thursday night. In the first four minutes of the game, Sharpe buried a trio of 3-point baskets to reach 1,000 points in his career, becoming the 28
th Norse in program history to reach the mark. He finished the game with nine made treys, established a new DI-era mark for most triples in a game.
As an encore, Sharpe tallied 18 points to help the Norse run past Cleveland State on Saturday night.
Sharpe averaged 25.5 points per game on the strength of 58 percent (15-of-26) shooting from the floor and 67 percent (12-of-18) from long range. He also contributed 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
Sharpe also earned player of the week accolades on Dec. 16 after pouring in 30 points against Illinois State. NKU has now had a player earn the honor five times this season, including the three straight that
Dantez Walton garnered in the weeks leading up to Sharpe's first honor.
NKU is back in action on Friday, January 24 in a nationally-televised broadcast on ESPNU when it squares off against Wright State. First place will be on the line in the 9 p.m. (ET) game as the Raiders sit first at 7-1 in the league standings, one game ahead of the 6-2 Norse.
