HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's men's tennis will take on undefeated Lipscomb on Friday, January 31. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
NKU sits at 0-2 on the year, with its losses coming from No. 6 Ohio State and cross-river opponent, Xavier. The loss to Xavier was a heartbreaker, losing by just one point, 4-3, with the deciding point coming from No. 2 singles.
Andrew Niehaus gave the Norse their first point of the season, taking down his opponent in two sets.
Jorge Rodriguez Agudo and
Brandon Ponomarew finished off scoring for the night for the Norse in No. 4 and 5 singles, but it was not enough to edge the Musketeers.
Lipscomb has been enjoying a successful season early on, sporting a 3-0 record. The Bisons' wins come against Appalachian State, Austin Peay, and Troy with scores of 6-1, 7-0 and 5-2, respectively. Pablo Caffarena leads the Bisons in singles wins, going 3-0 thus far in No. 2 singles. Victor Chaw and Caffarena were named Atlantic Sun Doubles Pair of the Year in 2019 and have gone 2-0 on the season in No. 1 doubles.
The last time the Norse and Bisons faced off was April 11, 2015, NKU's final season in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Norse came out victorious, 5-2, in Nashville.
