HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball won its third-straight contest on Thursday evening, defeating Milwaukee, 61-37. The Norse move to 12-9 overall and 6-4 in Horizon League play while the Panthers drop to 7-14 (4-6 Horizon).
STATS LEADERS
- Ally Niece led the way in scoring with 17 points, going 7-for-12 from the field. She also added three assists and three rebounds.
- Molly Glick poured in 13 points on 60.0 percent shooting and paced the team with three steals.
- Carissa Garcia also hit double digits with 12 points.
- Kailey Coffey recorded 10 rebounds, while Grayson Rose had eight boards and a pair of blocks.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- Milwaukee scored on its first possession, but the Norse quickly answered back with a triple by Emmy Souder and were able to jump ahead to an 11-6 lead. The Panthers strung together a 5-0 run to tie the contest up, but NKU used a triple from Niece to hold a 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Once again, the Panthers started the second quarter with a quick score and took their largest lead of the game at 17-14. The Norse then went on a 7-0 run bolstered by 3-pointers from Rose and Garcia, pulling ahead, 21-17.
- NKU was able to maintain its lead into halftime, 25-22, despite a buzzer-beating triple by Milwaukee to close the stanza.
- Niece paced the Norse with nine points and three assists in the half, while Glick added six points and a steal.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- As in the previous quarters, Milwaukee quickly scored to get within a point of the Norse out of the intermission, but the Norse quickly retaliated with an 8-0 run to pull ahead, 33-24.
- The Panthers were held to just 10 points in the third quarter and five in the final period, going 1-for-11 from the field in the fourth.
- The Norse were consistent in the second half, going 6-for-15 (40.0 percent) for 18 points in both the third and fourth quarter.
GAME NOTES
- NKU won both regular-season matchups against the Panthers this year, defeating Milwaukee on the road on Dec. 30.
- Milwaukee's 37 points mark a season low for opponents this season. The Panthers shot 13-for-50 from the field for 26.0 percent, while NKU hit 22-of-58 field goals for 37.9 percent.
- The Norse are now 9-0 overall and 6-0 in league play when keeping opponents to 60 points or fewer.
- NKU outrebounded the Panthers, 44-36, and had an 18-14 advantage in the paint.
- The Norse also converted 23 points off of Milwaukee's 19 points.
