CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.– Northern Kentucky men's tennis fell in a 5-2 decision to Lipscomb on Friday evening. The Norse move to 0-3 overall while the Bisons remain unblemished at 4-0.
Match Notables
- Lipscomb used 6-3 wins on the first and second courts to secure the opening doubles point.
- The Bisons moved out to a 3-0 lead after picking up straight-set singles wins in the sixth and fourth flights.
- The Norse secured their two points of the match out of No. 2 and 3 singles. On the second court, Andrew Niehaus defeated Pablo Caffarena, 6-3, 6-2.
- Emilien Burnel picked up his first collegiate singles win, going an extended set against Jorge Ortegon in the No. 3 match, 7-5, before blanking his opponent in the second.
- Lipscomb secured the match with a win in No. 1 singles. Nathan Schwartz pushed Victor Chaw in the opening set, but the Bison came out on top, 7-6, before winning the second set, 6-3.
- In No. 5 singles, Jorge Rodriguez Agudo won the opening set against Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto, 6-4, but his opponent pushed a third set with a 6-1 second set and finished off the third, 6-3.
The Norse face two opponents next weekend, starting off with Kentucky, which is receiving votes in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, on Friday, Feb. 7. NKU then takes on Thomas More on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
