@NKUNorseWBB suffers road loss at IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky women's basketball dropped an 89-61 decision on the road at IUPUI, falling to 8-8 on the season and 2-3 in Horizon League play. The Jaguars move on to 10-6 and remain atop the league at 4-1.
 
STATS LEADERS
  • Grayson Rose and Ivy Turner both had 12 points. Rose posted a new season high with a pair of 3-pointers and two blocks.
  • Carissa Garcia also reached double figures, pouring in 10 points.
  • Taylor Clos added nine points and a pair of assists.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • IUPUI established a 9-2 lead to start the contest out and was able to keep the Norse at arm's reach for the rest of the half. Turner scored eight points in the last five minutes of the first quarter, and Clos drilled a buzzer-beating triple to get the Norse within four points, 17-13.
  • The Jaguars posted a 19-15 advantage in the second quarter to lead at the half, 36-28.
  • NKU shot 44.0 percent in the half while the Jaguars connected slightly higher at 48.0 percent, but IUPUI was able to take advantage of 14 trips to the charity stripe, scoring 11 points off free throws. The Jaguars also converted NKU's 10 turnovers into 13 points.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • The Jaguars used a 9-0 run in the first two minutes of the half to extend their lead and went on to outscore the Norse 34-13 in the third quarter. IUPUI was nearly flawless from inside the arc at 14-for-15, scoring 20 points in the paint.
  • However, the Norse finished strong and claimed the fourth quarter, 20-19, with 12 points in the paint, eight points off turnovers and 11 points from the bench.
GAME NOTES
  • IUPUI shot 60.0 percent from the field, including 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. The Norse connected at 41.8 percent from the floor and 29.4 percent from long range.
  • The Jaguars also used their size to outscore the Norse 50-28 in the paint and gain the 33-23 rebounding edge.
  • NKU's bench contributed heavily, with the Norse reserves accounting for 34 of the team's 61 points.

The Norse remain on the road and will face UIC on Saturday, Jan. 11. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
