CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky men's tennis picked up its first win of the season, 7-0 over Thomas More. The Saints drop to 2-3 with the setback.
Match Notables
- NKU picked up the opening point after winning on all three doubles courts. Andrew Niehaus and Jorge Rodriguez Agudo posted a 6-1 win over Sergio Bermeio and Ethan Caruso in No. 2 doubles, while Nick Elleman and Brandon Ponomarew clinched the point on the No. 3 court over Brandon Kwok and Jaret Fidler, 6-2. Emilein Burnel and Nathan Schwartz also added a win, defeating Gavin Dail and Jared Haught in the top flight, 6-3.
- Burnel recorded the first singles point for NKU, downing Bermeio 6-1 in the first set before winning the second set by retirement at the 3-0 mark.
- Niehaus added a 6-1, 6-0 win over Caruso in No. 3 singles, improving to 3-2 on the season.
- Schwartz provided the clinching point, defeating Dail in No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1.
- With the match secured, the Norse wrapped up three more straight-set wins. Ponomarew posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Haught in No. 4 singles, followed by a 6-0, 6-2 victory for Jorge Rodriguez Agudo over Jaret Fidler in the No. 5 matchup.
- Felipe Hidalgo recorded the final win of the evening with matching 6-2 sets over Jeffrey Schenk in No. 6 singles.
The Norse hit the road next weekend for a pair of matches in Illinois. The weekend starts at Eastern Illinois on Friday, Feb. 14 before NKU takes on Chicago State on Saturday, Feb. 15.
