@NKUNorseBSB falls twice to Dayton in Saturday doubleheader

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University Baseball team (0-15, 0-0 HL) lost both of its games to Dayton (5-7, 0-0 A10) on Saturday at Woerner Field. Game one, a continuation of Friday's suspended contest, had a score of 4-3, while game two finished with a 13-4 result.

GAME 1: Dayton 4, Northern Kentucky 3

AT THE PLATE

  • Collin Luty had a double in a 2-for-4 performance, driving in one of the Norse runs.
  • Jake Murray went 3-for-5 in the first contest.
  • Treyvin Moss (1-for-3) and Andrew Bacon (1-for-5, 1 RBI) were the only other Norse to register hits.

ON THE MOUND

  • Noah Richardson (L, 0-2) had the start on Friday afternoon, went for one inning and gave up two runs on a hit and three walks.
  • Jake Pease rounded out Friday's portion of the game with a pair of scoreless innings.
  • Kyle Service finished up the game on Saturday afternoon with five frames of work. Only two runs went by in that span, but none were earned.

KEY MOMENTS

  • After a pair of runs scored for Dayton in the second, NKU answered in the third with three-consecutive singles by Murray, Moss and Bacon to score the only Norse run of Friday afternoon.
  • When the game resumed on Saturday, Dayton tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
  • NKU trimmed it back to a one-run game in the sixth. Haas reached first after being hit by a pitch and an error on Dayton's pitcher allowed the freshman to advance to third. Luty drove him in with a deep double to left-center.
  • A baserunner was on for Dayton in the bottom of the sixth after an error by Moss. The Flyers then plated their final run of the game with a double down the left-field line.
  • NKU nearly tied the game up in the ninth after a leadoff walk by Wakeham. Murray then singled to right field and two wild pitches brought a pinch-running Odom home. Griffin Doersching was at the plate with two outs and Murray on third, but grounded out to second base to end the game.

GAME 2: Dayton 13, Northern Kentucky 4

AT THE PLATE

  • Noah Fisher drove in three runs thanks to a homer in the seventh in a pinch-hit performance.
  • Doersching was the other Norse to drive in a run, finishing 1-for-4 in the game.
  • Bacon and Moss also had hits in the game, finishing 1-for-2 and 1-for-3, respectively.

ON THE MOUND

  • Tyler Keith was on the mound for the first couple of innings, allowing two runs and four hits.
  • Pease came back for game two and worked the bump for a frame, giving up a run.
  • Nick Noble faced seven batters in the third and gave up four-earned runs.
  • Tyler Ollier and Kurt Lange each had an inning of action. Ollier allowed three runs and two hits and Lange gave up one score on a single hit.
  • Tyler Murphy closed things out for NKU, tossing three innings and yielding just one run.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Dayton had a single run in each of the first three innings and held the Norse scoreless.
  • NKU broke through for its first score thanks to a Doersching single through the left side to bring home Moss, who was in scoring position after a leadoff double.
  • The Flyers half of the fourth saw five runs score thanks to a triple and a home run. An inning later the Dayton lead ballooned to 12-1 after a grand slam homer.
  • One more Dayton runner reached home in the sixth after an error by Luty and a single.
  • With Gick and Bowden on through a wild pitch and a walk, Fisher clubbed a ball down the left-field line for his third home run of the season.

UP NEXT

  • NKU wraps up its three-game set with the Flyers on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Jared Flueck is scheduled to be on the mound.
