ORLANDO, Fla. – Northern Kentucky men's tennis picked up a 4-3 win over Quinnipiac on Monday, with the match coming down to the final singles contest. The Norse move to 5-5 while Quinnipiac drops to 1-7.
Match Notables
- Quinnipiac took the opening point in tightly-contested doubles play. Emilien Burnel and Nathan Schwartz picked up a win in the top flight, 6-2 over Patrick Cachapero and Hielke Moore. However, QU won the remaining matchups, including a 7-5 set in the No. 3 spot to clinch the point.
- Schwartz tied things up with a pair of 6-1 sets over Moore in the top singles match.
- Following a Quinnipiac win in No. 6 singles, Niehaus got the match tied up once more out of the No. 3 spot. He bested Cachapero, 6-3, 7-5.
- The advantage flipped once more with Quinnipiac taking the No. 2 doubles match, and the Norse once again equalized the score thanks to Brandon Ponomarew upending Austin Yannone in the No. 5 singles match, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
- Jorge Rodriguez Agudo gave the Norse the clinching point with his three-set win over Aleksa Martinovic in No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2.
NKU takes on Fairfield tomorrow in the second of three matches in as many days.
